Banking Tip:

Verify Balances Before Stopping Checks in CaseLink Office and CaseLink Web

As a bankruptcy professional,  you may find yourself in a situation where you may have to issue a stop payment on checks that have become lost or gone stale. BMS makes it easy to issue stop payments by allowing you to do so directly from within our CaseLink software.

Although the process is simple, there are a few things that you should check before issuing a stop payment request.

Before you decide to Stop Payment on a live check:

  1. Confirm if Balances are Up-To-Date – Check to ensure ledger balances and outstanding balances match the current available balance.
  2. Reconcile Accounts – Verify checks to see if they have or have not cleared before you issue a stop.
  3. Call the BMS Banking Center – We are in constant contact with Rabobank and can tell you if the check has been issued a stop, if it is still outstanding, or if its stale dated.
  4. Call the Payee – When all else fails call the source. It’s better to double-check with the payee before stopping payment.

The BMS Banking Center can always walk you through the stop payment process and show you how to apply the stop and what to look for after the stop is performed, such as the Stop Payment Confirmation (via Mail) from the bank.
