Redeem US Saving Bonds via TreasuryDirect.com

As of 2/6/17, Rabobank would like to remind you that savings bonds must be redeemed through the instructions provided on the Treasury Direct website. Follow the instructions provided based on the type of bond as the process is different for different types of savings bonds.

Note: The debtor may also need to sign a form authorizing you to redeem the bond (FS Publication 0105). 

For your convenience, we have summarized the redemption instructions for the 3 types of savings bonds issued below:

Series EE Savings Bonds

To redeem Series EE savings bonds, which earn the same rate of interest (a fixed rate) for up to 30 years, follow the detailed instructions on the Treasury Direct website here.

Summary:

  • For electric bonds, you can log in to Treasury Direct and redeem the bond directly on the website to be deposited into your checking or savings account within two business days of the redemption date.
  • For paper bonds, you can cash bonds by mailing them (along with your Social Security Number) to: Treasury Retail Securities Site, PO Box 214, Minneapolis, MN 55480-0214.
  • Note: You must have a certifying officer at a bank where you account certify your signature in the request for payment on the back of each bond before you mail them to be redeemed.

Series I Savings Bonds

To redeem Series I Savings Bonds, which earns interest based on combining a fixed rate and an inflation rate, follow the detailed instructions on the Treasury Direct website here.

Summary:

  • For electric bonds, log in to TreasuryDirect.com and use the link for redeeming securities in ManageDirect.
  • For paper bonds, mail the bonds with your Social Security Number to: Treasury Retail Securities Site, PO Box 214, Minneapolis, MN 55480-0214.
  • Note: You must have a certifying officer at a bank where you account certify your signature in the request for payment on the back of each bond before you mail them to be redeemed.

HH/H Savings Bonds

To redeem HH/H Savings Bonds, which earn interest for up to 20 years, follow the detailed instructions on the Treasury Direct website here.

Summary:

  • To redeem the bonds, your local bank must certify or guarantee your signature on your request for payment (on the back of the HH or H Bond you want to redeem), then send the bonds, with your direct deposit instructions and any supporting documents (if needed) to: Treasury Retail Securities Site, PO Box 214, Minneapolis, MN 55480-0214.
  • Note: If you do not already have direct deposit for HH or H Bonds, fill out and include FS Form 5396 (download or order).
