Step-by-Step Guide to Creating an archive.pst file in Outlook 2013

If you are using Outlook 2013 please follow the steps below to create an Archive folder to your Outlook Mailbox:

1. Select the Home Tab and click on New Items: Home -> New Items


2. Select More Items from the sub-menu and choose Outlook Data File: More Items -> Outlook Data File


3. In the Create or Open Outlook Data File dialog box, in the File name box, type the name as you want it to appear in the Outlook Navigation Pane, and then click OK. 

In the Name box, type a title for the .pst file, or you can use the default title of “Personal Folders”. The title that you enter in the Name box is the name that is used in Outlook, as can be seen in the image below.

4. Use the default Outlook folder location, or you can locate a different folder location.

5. In the File name box, type a name for the new .pst file or you can use the default name abd Click OK.

Once you have created and named your Archive.pst file, it will appear up in your Outlook Mail Folders as referenced below:


Now, if you would like, you can create new folders and sub-folders within your new Archive folder. You can move entire sub-folders from your Inbox into the Archive as well as move emails directly from your Inbox to the Archive. You can also create multiple Archives, by following the steps above, to create files such as “Archive 2013” and “Archive 2012”. This will help to keep emails from your Inbox organized and easy to find. Please remember that the process of moving large amounts of emails and folders into your Archive will take sometime. It took you years to gather the information; it will take Outlook some time to process.
