Step-by-Step Guide to Compact Outlook for Microsoft 2010 or 2013

If you are using Microsoft 2010 or 2013 please follow the steps below to Compact your outlook.pst file.

Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 & Outlook 2013 (Maximum 50GB pst file size)

  1. Delete any items that you do not want to keep, and then empty the “Deleted Items” folder.
  2. Click on the “File Tab” in the Ribbon and then “Select Info” tab in the Menu.
  3. Click on “Accounts Settings” tab and “Account Settings” again. In the list select “Microsoft Exchange Server”, and then click on “Change”.
  4. Click on “More Settings”.
  5. On the “Advanced” tab, click on “Offline Folder File Settings”.
  6. Click on “Compact Now”.

When it finishes compacting, your .pst file will be smaller and load faster!

PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT INTERRUPT THE COMPACT PROCEDURE BEFORE IT FINISHES!!  When it runs, it will look like it is not doing anything, but it really is compacting the database.  This can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, especially if you have never compacted your .pst file before.
