Bankruptcy Statistics:

Bankruptcy Filings Down Again for Quarter Ending March 31, 2013

According to bankruptcy statistics published by the US Courts, Chapter 7 bankruptcy filings nationally for the quarter ending March 31 declined by 17% over the same period in 2012. With the exception of Wyoming Chapter 7 filings were down in all states. Chapter 7 bankruptcy filings were at their lowest levels since 2009.

Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings nationally for the quarter ending March 31 declined by 19% over the same period in 2012. Nationwide Chapter 11 filings were lower in 34 of the 50 states. Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings continue their downward trend since their high in 2010.

The table at the bottom of this page provides Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing statistics for each state for the quarter ending March 31st.

Chapter 11 filings have been down over the last 5 years. Chapter 11 filings were down 38% in 2013 from the high in 2010.
