Attention Reasons Help you Track Tax Refunds in CaseLink Office

You already know that Tax Refunds make up a significant portion of the assets collected by each estate. What you may not know is that cases filed at the beginning of the year provide an opportunity to return to the estate both full refunds from the prior year as well as the ability to intercept refunds before the debtor spends them.

We have already given you tips on how to utilize SnapShots to display open cases as well as using Tasks in order to be notified of cases with pending refunds. This tax season let us help you by showing you how to utilize the Attention Reason feature in CaseLink Office to easily track debtor refunds.

Using Attention Reason

Users can create their own list of specific Attention Codes for individual use. From the Home Page in CaseLink Office, go to the Task Bar and select Tables, then choose Attention Reason from the drop down menu.

In this example, we added Pending Tax Refund to the Attention Reason List. Click Save to complete the entry.

TR3These Attention reasons can then be accessed from the Case Information page. Look for the Attention! button located at the bottom of the Case page.  Once you click the Attention! button, right click the box next to the button to activate the drop down list. The reasons you listed will appear and can then be selected from the drop down list.

This option is helpful because it enables the user to go into each applicable case and check the Attention! button with the identifiable reason. Once an identifier is attached to cases with pending tax refunds they can easily be queried for user use.

To Query Cases

To query cases, go to the CaseLink Office Home Page and click on Report from the Tool Bar. Choose the Case tab from the Print Reports screen to run either the Case Listing or Case Memos report.   When cases no longer require tracking, remove the Attention reason. This way they will not show up on your query reports.
