Senior Banking Operations Analyst

Position Summary

The in-house BMS Banking Center team is the only one of it’s kind in our industry, and is made up of experienced professionals available to assist clients in all their banking needs. The Senior Banking Operations Analyst serves as a key member of the Banking Team supporting BMS’ clients (internal and external) through data analysis work, client/bank relationship management and expedient problem resolution. This lead role will manage the project rollout and integration with all BMS partner banks while providing high‐touch client service through effective communication and project management. The successful incumbent will possess strong project management skills, attention to detail, excellent relationship building skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic team environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Banking Team Project Lead for new bank integrations and migrations
  • Process improvement lead in identifying banking problems and recommending solutions
  • Act as SME escalation for all Banking personnel
  • Take ownership of fixes or builds, including prioritizing and scheduling shortterm workarounds, long term fix, and testing until comfort level is reached
  • Ensure decisions on all action items meet all bank, vendor, and BMS required deadlines and policies, including SOC standards
  • Review and analyze daily banking reports and queues produced by BMS, a BMS bank, or a vendor in order to identify anomalies, rejects, or other banking items that fall out of normal flow
  • Research and resolve banking‐related issues escalated by customer service team members
  • Ensure appropriate and timely escalation of urgent or unresolved issues to Banking Operations Manager
  • Formulate activity and historical reports ad‐hoc
  • Mentor team members on application functionality and procedures
  • Managerial backup for Banking Operations Manager
  • Monitor phone system statistics

Position Expectations:

  • Analytical Ability
    • Identify problems, provide potential solutions, and participate in the decision making process
    • Provide supporting data for proposed course of action and be prepared to persuade others
    • Communicate succinctly, using a summary or technical details as appropriate
    • Document, follow up and seek root cause resolution even after the situation is resolved
    • Understand SQL select statements that involve multiple table joins and modify them to meet the current situation
    • Maintain working knowledge of the file exchange process between BMS and counterparties
    • Create, implement, and execute a project plan
  • Knowledge of Bankruptcy Industry, BMS Products and Tools
    • Subject matter expert knowledge is applied in resolving client issues
    • Ability to explain both the concept and details of new functionality or new processes to Banking CSR’s and Operations Analysts
    • Anticipate the impact a software defect, operational issue, or proposed solution will have on the client system and raise proposed solutions to the Banking Operations Manager
    • Training progress meets position expectations
    • Organize and initiate cross training with other Operations Analysts as needed to ensure each team member can perform all functions
    • Pass all required certification testing
  • Customer Service
    • Perform according to Customer Service Standards
    • Take live calls daily as wait times dictate
    • Be aware of hot list clients and other sensitive clients (i.e. heads of committees) and prioritize and escalate issues accordingly
    • Maintain cordial relationship with bank and vendors in order to facilitate progress on outstanding issues
    • Identify steps that can be taken to provide clients with an enhanced client experience and escalate to Bank Operations Manager.
  • Troubleshooting / Ticket Resolution
    • Ensures team meets all deadlines
    • Ability to communicate problems and potential solutions clearly to Bank, BMS technology teams, and BMS management
    • Escalate urgent issues timely to the Banking Operations Manager
    • Effectively engage development and other resources outside of the Banking Center as needed to resolve client issues
    • Provide continued follow up with bank, vendors, and internal BMS teams until problems are resolved or changed to inactive
    • Exercise sound judgment in all actions and provide guidance to other Bank Operations Analysts
    • Ability to type up business specifications for BMS technology teams to use for technology enhancement requests
  • Data, Confidentiality and Security
    • Practices all security and data handling procedures, policies to protect company security as well as client confidentiality and privacy. Protects the privacy and confidentiality of all customer and staff information at all times
    • Appropriately handle confidential information to safeguard such
      information and only use it or disclose it as expressly authorized or specifically required in the course of performing their specific job duties. Misuse of confidential information can be intentional (acts and/or omissions), or a product of negligence or inadvertence. Misuse of data should be avoided such as but not limited to:

      • Accessing information not directly germane or relevant to the employee’s specifically assigned tasks
      • Disclosing, discussing and/or providing confidential information to any individual not authorized to view or access that data, including but not limited to third parties, volunteers, vendors and other BMS employees
      • Reckless, careless, negligent, or improper handling, storage or disposal of confidential data, including electronically stored and/or transmitted data, printed documents and reports containing confidential information
      • Deleting or altering information without authorization, generating and/or disseminating false or misleading information, and using information viewed or retrieved from the systems for non‐work use

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Business Administration or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience in banking operations including exception handling
  • 3 years experience at BMS to gain an in‐depth understanding of the unique challenges that BMS clients face preferred
  • Extensive data analysis experience required
  • Must possess mathematical aptitude
  • Must have advanced working knowledge of personal computer applications including Microsoft Office
  • Experience with supporting proprietary software
  • Experience building SQL queries
